I wonder what kind of day today will be.
今日はチェンマイからバスでスコータイへ向かう。
Today, I’m heading to Sukhothai by bus from Chiang Mai.
天気も良くなったし、宿も良かったから、ちょっと名残惜しい。
The weather’s cleared up, and the guesthouse was nice—makes it hard to leave.
来たときと同じようにソンテウでバスターミナルまで行こうと思ったけど、
I was planning to take a songthaew to the bus terminal like I did when I arrived,
昨夜、宿のスタッフに聞いたら「Boltの方が安いよ」と言われた。
but last night the guesthouse staff told me Bolt is cheaper.
調べてみたら38バーツ。
I looked it up—38 baht.
ソンテウは50バーツだったから、確かに安い。
The songthaew was 50 baht, so yeah, Bolt is cheaper.
ソンテウの方が安いと思ってたのに。
I always thought songthaews were the cheaper option.
スタッフは「Grabよりも安い」とも言ってたけど、一応Grabでも検索。
The staff also said it’s cheaper than Grab, so I checked that too just in case.
そしたらGrabは32バーツ（約160円）だった。こっちに決定。
Turns out Grab was 32 baht (about ¥160). Decision made.
Grabでバイクタクシーを呼んだけど、1台目は宿の近くまで来たのにキャンセルされた。
I called a Grab bike taxi, but the first one came close and then canceled on me.
なぜ？
Why though?
再度呼び直したら、今度は数分で来てくれた。
I called again, and the second one came in just a few minutes.
バスターミナルに着いて、いくつかの窓口で料金を聞いてみたけど、どこも同じだった。
At the bus terminal, I asked around at a few counters, but all the prices were the same.
他の窓口で買った人も同じバスに乗ってきたし…どういう仕組みなんだろう？
People who bought tickets at different counters ended up on the same bus… how does that work?
バスに乗ったら、水とお菓子をもらった。
Once on board, they handed out water and snacks.
カバンに入れてスマホを見ていたら、また配りに来た。
I put them in my bag and was looking at my phone when they came around again.
多分、手元に持ってなかったから、もらってないと思われたんだろうね。
They probably thought I hadn’t received mine since I wasn’t holding them.
「もう、もらいましたよ」って言ったら、「あっ、そう」って感じで去っていった。笑
I said, “I already got mine,” and they just walked off like, “Oh, okay.” *laughs*
9時40分出発で休憩なし。でも途中のバスターミナルに何度か寄るので、トイレは行ける。
The bus left at 9:40 with no official break, but it stopped at a few terminals, so bathroom breaks were possible.
私が乗ったのはトイレ付きバスだったけど、誰かが使うと車内に匂いが充満する。
The bus had a toilet, but whenever someone used it, the whole bus filled with the smell.
車内は寒かった。エアコンの吹き出し口を閉めても寒いので、
It was freezing inside. Even after closing the A/C vent,
ティッシュを詰めて塞いだ。
I ended up stuffing tissues into it.
スコータイのバスターミナルには14時20分に到着。
We arrived at Sukhothai’s bus terminal at 2:20 p.m.
まずは次の目的地、ピサヌロークとコーンケンの情報をチェックしてから宿へ。
First, I checked info on my next destinations—Phitsanulok and Khon Kaen—before heading to the guesthouse.
ここから、コーンケン行のバスがあるようだけど、本数が少ないな。
とりあえず、食事とビール。
First things first: food and beer.
バスターミナル近くのお店で食事。
I ate at a place near the terminal.
ネットでは「何を食べても美味しい」と書いてあったので、
Online reviews said everything there was good,
今回の旅で初めてのパッタイ（タイ風焼きそば）40バーツ（約200円）を注文。
so I ordered my first pad thai of the trip—40 baht (about ¥200).
うーん、不味くはないけど、麺が好みじゃないなあ。
Hmm… not bad, but the noodles weren’t really my thing.
米粉麺かな？なんかベタつく感じがして。
Maybe they were rice noodles? They felt kind of sticky.
米粉麺、ちょっと苦手かも。
I might not be a fan of rice noodles.
日本の焼きそばとは全然違う。
Totally different from Japanese yakisoba.
今日の宿は、5年ほど前にも泊まったことがある安宿。
Tonight’s guesthouse is a budget place I stayed at about five years ago.
当時は冷房がなくてファンだけだったけど、今回はエアコンが付いてた。
Back then, it only had a fan, but now it has air conditioning!
素晴らしい。
Amazing.
まあ、11月のタイは夜は涼しいから、ファンだけでも問題ないけどね。
Though in November, Thai nights are cool enough that a fan would’ve been fine.
部屋は8人部屋のドミトリー。
It’s an 8-bed dorm room.
すでに荷物が2か所にあったから、私は3人目かな。
There were already two sets of luggage, so I guess I’m the third guest.
偶然にも、前回泊まったときと同じベッドだった！笑
By chance, I got the same bed as last time! *laughs*
冷たい水とタオルも付いて、この値段（約800円/1泊）はありがたい。
With cold water and a towel included, it’s a great deal at around ¥800 per night.
宿の屋上に上がってみる。
I went up to the rooftop of the guesthouse.
いい景色だな。
What a beautiful view.
荷物を置いてから、歩いてマーケットへ。
After dropping off my stuff, I walked to the market.
途中、川の上に建てられた家を見かけた。素敵だった。
On the way, I saw houses built over the river—really charming.
でも、増水したら危ないよね。
But they’d be in danger if the river flooded.
カンチャナブリーからチェンマイに行くとき、バスの中で地図を見てたら、
When I was on the bus from Kanchanaburi to Chiang Mai, I noticed on the map
一部の地域が洪水になってたみたい。
that some areas were experiencing floods.
そのとき、スコータイは大丈夫だったのかな？
I wonder if Sukhothai was okay back then?
宿の近くにも川があるけど、氾濫しなかったのかな？
There’s a river near the guesthouse too—did it not overflow?
マーケットに着いたけど、何もやってなかった。
When I got to the market, nothing was open.
川の近くだから、氾濫して一度撤退したのかも。
Maybe the river flooded and they had to pack up temporarily.
トイレに行きたくなって、近くにあったお寺に入ってみる。
I needed to use the restroom, so I stepped into a nearby temple.
そしたら、子どもが遊ぶ用の広場みたいな場所があった。
There, I found what looked like a playground for children.
なかなかのクオリティだな。
It was surprisingly well made.
仕方ないので、少しだけ屋台が並んでいる通りでツマミを買って帰る。
Oh well—I grabbed some snacks from a nearby street with a few food stalls and headed back.
豚串揚げ。なんと1本5バーツ（約25円）！安い！
Fried pork skewers—only 5 baht each (about ¥25)! So cheap!
4本購入。
I bought four.
宿に戻って、ロビーで豚串とビールでまったり。
Back at the guesthouse, I relaxed in the lobby with pork skewers and a beer.
ロビーには旅行者が何人かいたので、
There were a few other travelers hanging out there,
「明日、バイクをシェアしない？」と声をかけてみたけど、残念ながら見つからず。
so I asked, “Anyone want to share a motorbike tomorrow?” but no luck.
「明日はバンコクに行くんだ」とか「チェンマイに戻るよ」とか、みんな予定があった。
Some were heading to Bangkok, others back to Chiang Mai—everyone had plans.
でも、私が行こうとしているシーサッチャーナライ歴史公園の写真を見せたら、
But when I showed them photos of Si Satchanalai Historical Park, where I plan to go,
「もっと早く知ってたら、バスキャンセルしたのに…」って言ってくれる人もいた。
someone said, “If I’d known earlier, I would’ve canceled my bus!”
宿のスタッフに、明日の朝バイクを借りたいと伝えて、
I told the guesthouse staff I’d like to rent a motorbike in the morning,
借りられるバイクがあるか確認してもらって、早めに就寝。
asked them to check availability, and went to bed early.
宿の周りにはバスターミナルしかなくて、特に何もないからね。
There’s nothing much around the guesthouse except the bus terminal anyway.
