朝起きて、まずは一服。
I woke up in the morning and started the day with a smoke.
タバコを吸ってからトイレに行ったら、昨日詰まっていたトイレだった。
After that, I went to the restroom—and it was the same one that had been clogged yesterday.
スタッフに頼んで掃除してもらったのに、また誰か馬鹿者がトイレットペーパーを便器に詰めていた。
Even though I’d asked the staff to clean it, some fool had stuffed toilet paper in there again.
もしかして、日本人じゃないか？と疑ってしまう。
I couldn’t help but wonder—could it have been a fellow Japanese traveler?
タイに来たなら、タイのルールを守ってほしい。
If you come to Thailand, at least follow the local rules.
朝ごはんを買いに出て、食べたあと少し休憩。
I went out to get breakfast, ate, and then took a short break.
今日はどこへ行こうか悩む。
I wasn’t sure where to go today.
丸一日自由に動けるのは、今回の旅では今日が最後。
This was my last full free day of the trip.
ネットで面白そうな場所がないか調べてみた。
I searched online for interesting places to visit.
1つ目はピンクガネーシャの寺院。
The first option was the Pink Ganesha temple.
2つ目は、呪物が売られているというマーケット。
The second was a market said to sell occult items.
ピンクガネーシャの方は、列車とソンテウを使って片道1時間ちょっとらしい。
The Pink Ganesha spot would take just over an hour one way, using a train and a songthaew.
呪物マーケットは王宮の近くで、バスで1時間もかからない。
The occult market was near the Grand Palace and less than an hour away by bus.
ピンクガネーシャにも行ってみたかったけど、今回はマーケットに決めた。
I did want to see the Pink Ganesha, but I decided to go with the market this time.
最終日に呪物を見に行くなんて、我ながら変わってるなと思う。
Going to see cursed objects on my last day—guess I’m a bit of an oddball.
バスで約45分。
It took about 45 minutes by bus.
到着したけど……ちょっと早すぎたかも？
I arrived, but maybe I was too early?
Googleによると9時オープンとあったけど、10時に着いた時点で開いていたのは全体の4割ほど。
Google said it opened at 9 a.m., but when I got there at 10, only about 40% of the shops were open.
呪物っぽいものを売っている店は2軒だけ。
Only two shops seemed to be selling anything remotely occult.
他の店は、普通のお守りばかりだった。
The rest were just selling regular charms and amulets.
でも、地元のタイ人たちは虫眼鏡を使って、真剣に品定めしていた。
Still, local Thais were carefully inspecting items with magnifying glasses.
マーケットを一通り見て回ったあと、次にどこへ行こうか考える。
After exploring the market, I started thinking about where to go next.
王宮では、前国王の奥様が亡くなった影響で、地元のタイ人たちが黒い服を着て弔意を表していた。
At the Grand Palace, many locals were dressed in black to mourn the passing of the former king’s wife.
ドレスコードもいつもより厳しくなっていたようだし、入場料も高い。
The dress code seemed stricter than usual, and the entrance fee was also quite high.
以前に訪れたこともあるので、今回はスルーすることにした。
Since I’d been there before, I decided to skip it this time.
このあとどこへ行こうか迷ったけれど、近くにチャイナタウンがあることを思い出す。
I wasn’t sure where to go next, but then I remembered that Chinatown was nearby.
もちろん、夜のほうがネオンがきれいで、屋台もたくさん出ていて楽しいのは知っている。
Of course, I know Chinatown is more vibrant at night, with glowing neon signs and bustling food stalls.
でも、夜はゆっくり寝たい。
But I prefer to get a good night’s sleep.
それでも、昼間のチャイナタウンを見てみることにした。
Still, I decided to check out Chinatown during the day.
歩いて行こうかと思ったけど、船で近くまで行けることを思い出し、船を使うことに。
I considered walking, but then I remembered I could take a boat nearby, so I went with that.
ただ、この船がちょっとクセ者。
But the boat system turned out to be a bit tricky.
大きな入り口には、ツアーを売る業者がいて、旅行者は間違って高いチケットを買ってしまいそうになる。
At the main entrance, there were tour vendors trying to sell tickets, and it’s easy for tourists to get tricked into buying overpriced ones.
実際、5年ほど前に来たとき、私も高いチケットを買ってしまった経験がある。
In fact, when I came here about five years ago, I fell for it and bought an expensive ticket myself.
今回はちゃんと安いチケットを探して、無事に発見。
This time, I made sure to find the cheaper ticket—and I did.
でも、ここでも最後のトラップが。
But even then, there was one last trap.
チケット売り場が2か所あって、左は40バーツ、右は30バーツ（約150円）。
There were two ticket counters—one on the left selling tickets for 40 baht, and one on the right for 30 baht (about 150 yen).
もちろん、右側の安い方で購入。
Naturally, I bought mine at the cheaper right-hand counter.
左側は独自に運営している業者らしい。
Apparently, the left one is run by a private operator.
右側は国が認可しているのかな？
Maybe the right one is government-approved?
以前来たときは、船に付いている旗の色で停まる場所を判断していたけど、今は旗が付いていない。
Last time I came, you could tell where the boat would stop by the color of the flag—but now, there were no flags.
コロナの影響で一時休業していたとニュースで見たけど、それがまだ完全には戻っていないのかも。
I remember reading that the boats had stopped running during COVID—maybe they haven’t fully resumed yet.
あるいは、運行ルールが変わったのかもしれない。よくわからない。
Or maybe the rules have changed. I’m not really sure.
以前は、ひっきりなしにボートが爆走していたけど、今はそんな様子もなく、ちょっと寂しい。
Boats used to zoom by constantly, but now it’s much quieter. It felt a bit lonely.
しかも、船も以前のチープなタイプではなく、エアコン完備の大型船に変わっていた。
Also, the boats were no longer the cheap, open-air kind—they’d been replaced with large, air-conditioned ones.
ただ、少しだけ残念な点が。
But there was one small downside.
窓ガラスに日除け用のフィルムが貼られていて、景色の写真がうまく撮れない。
The windows had sun-shading film, which made it hard to take good photos of the view.
昔のチープな船はそんなものがなくて、外の景色が自由に見られたのに。
The old cheap boats didn’t have that, and you could enjoy the scenery freely.
ちょっと残念だった。
That was a bit disappointing.
チャイナタウンに到着。
I arrived in Chinatown.
歩いて散策開始。
I started exploring on foot.
裏路地が面白い。いろんなものが売られている。
The back alleys were fascinating—so many things for sale.
観光客も多く、日本語も時々聞こえてくる。
There were lots of tourists, and I occasionally heard Japanese being spoken.
チャイナタウンを一通り歩いたあと、そろそろ宿に戻ることに。
After walking around Chinatown, I decided it was time to head back to the hostel.
バス停を探して、来るバスごとに行き先を伝えるけど、どれも「行かない」と言われる。
I looked for a bus stop and asked each bus if it went toward my destination, but they all said no.
バスを捕まえる場所が悪かったのかもと思い、宿まで続くまっすぐな道まで歩く。
Maybe I was in the wrong spot, so I walked to a more direct road leading to the hostel.
途中で地下鉄の駅を発見。でも、これが駅だって気づく人、少ないんじゃないかな？
Along the way, I found a subway station—but honestly, I doubt most people would even realize it was a station.
けっこう歩いたので、さすがに疲れてきた。
I’d walked quite a bit by then and was getting tired.
やっとバスに乗ろうと思ったら、すでにMBKセンターの近くまで来ていたので、ついでに買い物することに。
Just as I was about to catch a bus, I realized I was already near MBK Center—so I decided to do some shopping.
安くて良いものがあれば、小さなバックパックと腕時計を買おうと思っていた。
If I found something good and affordable, I was thinking of buying a small backpack and a wristwatch.
タグ・ホイヤー風の時計を見つけたので、値段を聞いてみる。
I spotted a Tag Heuer-style watch and asked for the price.
「1000バーツ（約5000円）」とのこと。高いな。
They said 1,000 baht (about 5,000 yen). That’s pricey.
値切ることにした。
Time to haggle.
自分が買うなら…3000円くらいかな？それでも高いかも。
If I were to buy it, maybe around 3,000 yen? Even that might be too much.
ということで、600バーツ（約3000円）を提示。
So I offered 600 baht (about 3,000 yen).
スタッフは750バーツを提示してきたが、「600じゃないと買わない。じゃあ帰るね」と伝える。
The staff countered with 750 baht, but I said, “If it’s not 600, I’m leaving.”
すると、あっさり600バーツでOKに。本当は500以下でもいけたかも？
To my surprise, they agreed to 600 baht right away. Maybe I could’ve gone even lower?
結局、購入してしまった。
In the end, I bought it.
でも、自分が納得した金額なら、それでいい。
Still, as long as I’m satisfied with the price, that’s what matters.
昨日、目をつけていたバッグ屋にも行ってみたが、残念ながら昼休み中？で閉まっていた。
I also went to the bag shop I had my eye on yesterday, but unfortunately, it seemed to be closed for lunch.
MBKからまたバスに乗って宿へ戻る。15バーツ（約75円）。
I took the bus back to the hostel from MBK—15 baht (about 75 yen).
帰り道でビールを購入。
I picked up a beer on the way back.
少し休んでから、キングスパワー免税店へ行く。
After a short rest, I headed to the King Power Duty Free store.
中国人がたくさんいて、正直うんざり。
It was packed with Chinese tourists, and honestly, it was exhausting.
人が歩いている前で急に立ち止まったり、
They’d suddenly stop right in front of people walking,
喫煙所があるのにその外でタバコを吸って、灰皿にも入れないし、
smoke outside designated areas even though there’s a smoking zone, and don’t use the ashtrays,
大声で話すし……。
and they talk loudly…
本当に、こいつらとは分かり合えないなと思ってしまう。
Honestly, I just can’t relate to them.
半分冷やかしで、オメガの店を覗いてみた。
Half out of curiosity, I peeked into the Omega store.
すごい高級感。私は短パンTシャツ姿で、かなりナメられてる感じ。
It was incredibly upscale. I was in shorts and a T-shirt—definitely not blending in.
「スピードマスターはありますか？」と聞いたら、「あちらです」と案内された。
I asked, “Do you have the Speedmaster?” and they pointed me to the display.
値段を見てびっくり。100万円以上。
I was shocked at the price—over 1 million yen.
私が日本で買ったときは30万円くらいだったのに……高すぎない？
When I bought mine in Japan, it was around 300,000 yen… Isn’t that way too much?
帰りにお土産を買おうとスーパーに寄ったが、特に良いものは見つからず。
I stopped by a supermarket to buy souvenirs on the way back, but didn’t find anything worthwhile.
結局、宿の最寄りのスーパーでチリソースとビール、カップ麺を購入。
In the end, I bought chili sauce, beer, and instant noodles at the supermarket near the hostel.
お土産はカップ麺とチリソースに決定。
So my souvenirs ended up being instant noodles and chili sauce.
外の屋台で、昨日も買ったチキンを1つ買って、ビールのつまみにする。
I bought another piece of chicken from the same street stall as yesterday to go with my beer.
ビールのあと、デザートに昨日買ったローズアップルを食べようとしたら……
After the beer, I went to eat the rose apple I bought yesterday for dessert, but…
凍ってた。どうやら冷凍庫に入れてしまったらしい。
It was frozen. Looks like I accidentally put it in the freezer.
テーブルの上で自然解凍してから食べた。
I let it thaw on the table before eating.
友達が「ローズアップルが一番好き！」って言ってたから期待してたけど、
A friend once told me, “Rose apples are my absolute favorite!” so I had high hopes.
私はやっぱりマンゴスチンのほうが好きかな。
But I think I prefer mangosteen.
ローズアップルの味はというと、香りはアメリカンチェリー。
As for the taste—it smelled like American cherries.
味は、梨とリンゴの中間って感じかな。
The flavor was somewhere between a pear and an apple.
まずくはないけど、あまり甘くはない。
It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t very sweet either.
そのことを友達にメールしたら、「本当はもっと甘いよ！季節じゃないのかもね？」って返事が来た。
I messaged my friend about it, and they replied, “It’s usually much sweeter! Maybe it’s not in season?”
このあとは、明日の荷物整理をしなきゃな。
Now I’ve got to pack up for tomorrow.
