せっかく駅まで来たので、バンコク行きの列車の時刻表を確認する。
Since I was already at the station, I decided to check the train schedule to Bangkok.
バンコク行きは本数が多いなぁ。
There are quite a few trains heading to Bangkok.
ここブリーラムからは、次に最終目的地であるバンコクへ向かう予定。
From here in Buriram, my next and final destination will be Bangkok.
バスもあるけど、列車のほうが安いみたい。
There are buses too, but the train seems to be cheaper.
所要時間も30分から1時間ほどしか変わらないので、列車で移動しようと思っている。
The travel time only differs by about 30 minutes to an hour, so I’m planning to take the train.
朝食を探しに宿の近くを一回りしてみたが、店が見当たらない。
I walked around near the guesthouse looking for breakfast, but couldn’t find any shops.
露店も出ていないので、朝食が取れない。
There weren’t even any street vendors, so I couldn’t get anything to eat.
昨日、セブンイレブンの近くに麺料理屋があったのを思い出し、行ってみる。
I remembered seeing a noodle shop near the 7-Eleven yesterday, so I headed there.
でも、朝が早すぎたのか、まだ開店していなかった。
But it was probably too early—they hadn’t opened yet.
仕方なくセブンでパンと牛乳を買って、簡単な朝食にする。
So I bought some bread and milk at 7-Eleven and had a simple breakfast.
宿に戻ってから、昨日警官に教えてもらったバイク屋に電話してみた。
After returning to the guesthouse, I called the bike rental shop the officer had told me about.
電話は繋がったが、相手はタイ語のみ。こちらは英語。
The call went through, but the person only spoke Thai, and I only spoke English.
まったく話が通じないと思っていたら、相手が「チャットにしてくれ」と。
Just when I thought we couldn’t communicate at all, they asked me to switch to chat.
たぶん、チャットなら翻訳が使えるのだろう。
I guess they could use a translator if we chatted.
チャットで「今日、バイクを借りたい」と送ったが、残念ながら今日は1台も空きがないとのこと。
I messaged them saying I wanted to rent a bike today,
but unfortunately, they said none were available.
昨日、警官が電話してくれたときには、バイクがありそうだったのにな。
When the officer called yesterday, it sounded like they had some available.
もしかして、外国人だから断られたのかな？
Maybe they turned me down because I’m a foreigner?
Googleマップで他にレンタルバイク屋がないか探す。
I searched Google Maps to see if there were any other motorbike rental shops nearby.
バスターミナルの近くに1軒あるようなので、WhatsAppで電話してみる。
There seemed to be one near the bus terminal, so I tried calling them via WhatsApp.
でも、電話に出ない…。
But no one answered the call…
もしかして、このお店も潰れちゃったのかな？
Maybe this shop has shut down too?
ただ、Googleの口コミを見ると、2週間前にバイクを借りたというレビューがあった。
However, I saw a review on Google from just two weeks ago saying someone had rented a bike there.
お店はまだ営業していると思うんだけどな…。
So I figured the shop must still be in business.
一応、アプリのチャットで「バイクを借りたいのですが、在庫はありますか？」と送ってみた。
Just in case, I sent a message through the app:
“I’d like to rent a bike—do you have any available?”
でも、返事は来なかった。
But I didn’t get a reply.
ダメ元で、直接お店まで行ってみることに。
So I decided to go there in person, even if it was a long shot.
宿の近くに、けっこう綺麗なホテルがあったので、
もしかしてバイクレンタルをやっていないかと思って中に入って聞いてみた。
There was a fairly nice hotel near my guesthouse,
so I went in to ask if they offered bike rentals.
でも、やっていないとのこと。
Unfortunately, they didn’t.
また歩き始める。途中でレンタル屋があったら、そこにも寄ってみようと思う。
I started walking again, planning to stop by any shop that looked promising.
バイクがたくさん並んでいるお店を発見。
I spotted a shop with lots of bikes lined up.
お店の人に「レンタルバイクはやっていますか？」と聞いてみたが、販売のみとのこと。
I asked if they rented bikes, but they only sold them.
残念。
Too bad.
さらにもう一軒、バイクがたくさんあるお店を見つけた。
I found another shop with lots of bikes.
聞いてみたら、そこは修理専門だった。
But they only did repairs.
「近くにバイクレンタル屋はないですか？」と聞いてみたが、「知らないなー」との返事。
I asked if they knew of any rental shops nearby, but they just said, “No idea.”
うーん、ブリーラムってなんでこんなにバイクレンタルが少ないんだろう？
I wonder why there are so few bike rental shops in Buriram.
途中でYAMAHAのバイク販売店を見つけたので、そこで聞いてみる。
I came across a YAMAHA dealership and decided to ask there.
すると、「ここにバイクレンタル屋があるよ」と言って、お店の名刺を見せてくれた。
They showed me a business card and said, “There’s a rental shop here.”
「ここに電話してみたら？」と言われたが、
コーンケンでスマホが使えなくなってから、Wi-Fiがないと使えない状態。
They suggested I call, but ever since my phone stopped working in Khon Kaen,
I can only use it where there’s Wi-Fi.
それを伝えると、「このお店のWi-Fiを使っていいよ」と言ってくれた。
When I explained that, they kindly offered, “You can use our Wi-Fi.”
助かったー！
What a relief!
Wi-Fiに繋ぐと、WhatsAppに不在着信と「バイクはありますよ」というメッセージが届いていた。
Once I connected, I saw a missed call and a message on WhatsApp saying, “We have bikes available.”
まさに、今から向かおうとしていたお店だった。
It was the very shop I had been trying to reach.
「今日借りたいので、1台確保しておいてください。今から向かいます」とメッセージを送り、お店へ向かう。
I messaged them, “I’d like to rent one today.
Please hold a bike for me—I’m on my way,” and headed over.
お店に着くと、店主がいた。
When I arrived, the owner was there.
なんと、店主はタイ人ではなく外国人。どこの国の人か聞いたら、フランス人だった。
Surprisingly, the owner wasn’t Thai—he was French.
フランス人がこんな場所でバイクレンタル店をやっているなんて、すごいなと思った。
I was amazed that a Frenchman was running a motorbike rental shop in a place like this.
店に並んでいるバイクはどれも綺麗で、メンテナンスも行き届いている様子。
All the bikes looked well-maintained and in great condition.
料金を聞くと、300バーツ／24時間（約1,500円）とのこと。
When I asked about the price, he said it was 300 baht for 24 hours (about 1,500 yen).
「では、1日だけ借りたいです」と伝えると、ちょっとした問題が発生。
I told him I’d like to rent one for just a day, but then a small issue came up.
最低2日からしか貸し出していないという。
He said they only rent for a minimum of two days.
うーん、どうしよう…。
Hmm… what should I do?
「明日にはバンコクに行くので、2日は多すぎる。1日だけ貸してもらえませんか？」とお願いしてみた。
I explained, “I’m heading to Bangkok tomorrow, so two days is too much. Could you please rent it to me for just one day?”
店主は困った顔をしていた。
He looked a bit unsure.
私がしょんぼりした顔をしていたら、「君、日本人か？」と聞かれた。
Seeing my disappointed expression, he asked, “Are you Japanese?”
「はい、日本人です」と答えると、なぜか1日だけ貸してくれることに！
I said yes, and for some reason, he agreed to rent it to me for just one day!
やったー！ラッキー！
Yes! Lucky me!
バイクを借りるだけで、こんなに苦労するとは思わなかった。
I never imagined renting a bike would be this much trouble.
「他の店にも問い合わせたけど、今日は1台もないって言われた」と伝えると、
I told him, “I contacted other shops too, but they all said they had no bikes today.”
「今はバイクレースの関係者が長期レンタルしているから、台数が少ないんだよ」と教えてくれた。
He explained, “Right now, a lot of bikes are rented out long-term by people involved in the races.”
そう、ここブリーラムにはレース場があるし、ブリーラム・ユナイテッドというサッカーチームの本拠地でもある。
That made sense—Buriram has a race track and is also home to the Buriram United football team.
ネットで調べた限りでは、今日はレースもサッカーも開催されていないはずだったけど…。
According to what I’d researched online, there weren’t any races or matches today, though.
まあ、バイクが借りられたので問題解決。
Anyway, I got the bike, so problem solved.
ただ、借りられたのは小さめのスクーターだった。
The only available bike was a small scooter.
店内にはもう少し大きなスクーターもあったけど、それは貸してもらえなかった。
There were some larger scooters in the shop, but they weren’t available for rent.
デポジットは1,000バーツ（約5,000円）とのことだったが、そんなに現金を持っていなかった。
The deposit was 1,000 baht (about 5,000 yen), but I didn’t have that much cash on me.
「パスポートで代用できますか？」と聞いたら、パスポートを預けることでOKだった。
I asked if I could leave my passport instead, and he agreed.
最後に契約書にサイン。
Finally, I signed the rental agreement.
そのとき、「この契約には保険も含まれていますか？」と聞いてみた。
At that point, I asked, “Does this include insurance?”
「バイクに関する保険は含まれているけど、乗っている人のケガは対象外だよ」とのこと。
He said, “It includes insurance for the bike, but not for injuries to the rider.”
バイクの傷なども一緒にしっかりチェック。
We carefully checked the bike for any existing damage together.
「どこまで行くの？」と聞かれたので、「パノムルン遺跡まで行く予定です」と答えると、驚かれた。
He asked, “Where are you going?” and when I said “Phanom Rung,” he looked surprised.
「あそこはここから50kmもあるよ。俺なら車でも行きたくないね」と笑っていた。
He said, “That place is 50 kilometers from here. I wouldn’t want to go even by car!”
安全運転で出発。今回の旅のメインイベントだ。
I set off, driving safely. This was the main event of my trip.
前回スコータイでバイクを借りたときはすごく寒かったので、
今日は長袖Tシャツにネルシャツを重ね、下はジーンズ。
Last time I rented a bike in Sukhothai,
it was freezing, so today I wore a long-sleeved T-shirt with a flannel shirt over it and jeans.
パノムルンまでの道は意外と簡単だった。
The route to Phanom Rung turned out to be surprisingly simple.
大通りに出て、そこをひたすらまっすぐ進む。
I just got onto the main road and kept going straight.
パノムルンの10kmほど手前にある大きな交差点を右折するだけ。
About 10 kilometers before Phanom Rung, there’s a big intersection where you turn right.
ほぼそれだけで目的地に到着する。
That’s pretty much all it takes to get there.
走り始めてすぐ、ブリーラム・ユナイテッドの本拠地であるスタジアムが見えた。
Soon after I started riding, I saw the stadium that’s home to Buriram United.
練習している選手はいなかったけど、誰が有名選手かなんて私には分からないしね。
There weren’t any players practicing, but honestly,
I wouldn’t recognize any famous ones anyway.
大きな交差点に着いて右折したところで、急にトイレに行きたくなった。
After turning at the big intersection, I suddenly needed to use the restroom.
近くにセブンイレブンがあったので、「トイレを貸してもらえますか？」と聞いてみた。
There was a 7-Eleven nearby, so I asked if I could use their restroom.
でも、トイレはバックヤードにあるらしく、貸せないとのこと。
But they said the restroom was in the back area and not available to customers.
まあ、男なので外で済ませてもいいんだけど、大通り沿いで人目が気になる…。
I mean, I could go outside since I’m a guy, but it was a main road and too exposed.
セブンの隣に飲食店があったので、「トイレ使っていいですか？」と聞いてみた。
Next to the 7-Eleven was a small restaurant, so I asked if I could use their restroom.
料理中のおばちゃんがにっこり笑って、「いいよ、トイレはあっちだよ！」と案内してくれた。
The lady cooking smiled warmly and said, “Sure! It’s over there!”
優しいなぁ。
So kind of her.
少し休憩してから、再び目的地に向けて出発。
After a short break, I set off again toward my destination.
最後は上り坂で、道がくねくねしていて楽しかった。
The final stretch was uphill with winding roads—it was actually fun to ride.
やっぱりバイクって楽しいな。
Riding a motorbike really is fun.
やっと目的地に到着。ちょうどお昼時でお腹も空いていた。
I finally arrived at Phanom Rung. It was around lunchtime, and I was getting hungry.
遺跡の前には3〜4軒の飲食店があり、タイ人らしき人たちが食事している店を選んだ。
There were three or four restaurants in front of the ruins,
and I chose one where locals seemed to be eating.
メニューには英語表記もあって助かった。
The menu had English translations, which was a relief.
「ビールはありますか？」と聞くと、「あるよ」との返事。
I asked, “Do you have beer?” and they said yes.
でも、どうやら他の店から持ってきたようだった。
Though it seemed like they brought it over from another shop.
料理を1品選んで注文し、ビールを飲みながら待つ。
I ordered a dish and sipped my beer while waiting.
料理が運ばれてきて、空腹を満たす。
The food arrived, and I finally satisfied my hunger.
食事中にメニューを見返していたら、タイ語だけのメニューもあることに気づいた。
While eating, I looked back at the menu and noticed there was also a Thai-only version.
英語メニューとタイ語メニューを比べてみると…なんと英語メニューの方が40バーツ（約200円）ほど高い。
Comparing the two, I realized the English menu listed prices about 40 baht (roughly 200 yen) higher.
左が英語メニュー、右がタイ語メニュー。

パノムルンに来るときは、皆さんも気をつけてくださいね。

それにしても、ビールも料理も高かったなぁ。
Still, both the beer and the food were pretty expensive.
味もごく普通だったし…。
And honestly, the taste was just average.
会計のとき、やはり英語メニューの金額を請求された。
Sure enough, when I went to pay, they charged me the English menu price.
タイ語メニューを指さして、「こっちの値段じゃないの？」と聞いてみた。
I pointed to the Thai menu and asked, “Isn’t it supposed to be this price?”
すると店員が奥に確認に行き、マネージャーらしき女性がテーブルにやってきた。
The staff went to check, and a woman who seemed to be the manager came over.
彼女は「英語メニューは大盛り、タイ語メニューは普通盛り。だから値段が違うの」と説明。
She explained, “The English menu is for large portions, and the Thai menu is for regular ones.
That’s why the prices are different.”
でも、そんなことはどこにも書いてなかったし、私は聞いてもいない。
But that wasn’t written anywhere, and I hadn’t asked for a large portion.
「今回はタイ語メニューの値段でいいですよ。特別サービスです」と言われた。
She finally said, “We’ll charge you the Thai menu price this time—as a special service.”
最後の最後まで恩着せがましい…。
Even at the end, it felt a bit patronizing…
腹も満たされたので、ようやく観光開始！
With my stomach full, I was finally ready to start sightseeing!
やっとここまで来た、念願のパノムルン遺跡。
At last, I had made it to the long-awaited Phanom Rung Historical Park.
入場料は200バーツ（約1,000円）。
The entrance fee was 200 baht (about 1,000 yen).
でも、ムアンタム遺跡とのセット券だと250バーツ（約1,250円）だったので、セットを購入。
However, a combo ticket with Muang Tam Ruins was 250 baht (about 1,250 yen), so I went with that.
この外国人価格、やっぱりちょっと高いな…。
Still, the foreigner pricing felt a bit steep.
タイ人料金の10倍くらいする。
It was nearly ten times what Thai citizens pay.
入口近くの展示室を覗いてみると、石像や写真がたくさん展示されていた。
I peeked into the exhibition room near the entrance and found many stone sculptures and photos on display.
その中に、サイの石像があった。
Among them was a statue of a rhinoceros.
「あれ？タイに野生のサイなんていたっけ？」と不思議に思う。
I thought, “Wait, do rhinos even live in the wild in Thailand?”
近くにいたスタッフに聞いてみると、「昔はいた」と言っていた。
I asked a nearby staff member, and they said, “They used to.”
後で調べてみたところ、タイではサイはすでに絶滅しているようだった。
Later, I looked it up and found that rhinos are already extinct in Thailand.
どうやら、あの像はヒンドゥー教の教えに基づいて作られたものらしい。
Apparently, the statue was created based on Hindu mythology.
ここパノムルン遺跡は、カンボジアの有名なアンコール・ワットに似ている。
Phanom Rung is similar in style to Cambodia’s famous Angkor Wat.
でも、アンコール・ワットよりも古いらしい。
However, it’s said to be even older than Angkor Wat.
平日で、しかもアクセスが不便な場所にあるせいか、観光客はかなり少なかった。
Since it was a weekday and the location is hard to reach, there were very few tourists.
ゆっくり見学できて嬉しい。
I was glad to be able to explore at my own pace.
次はムアンタム遺跡へ向かう。
Next, I headed to the Muang Tam ruins.
ここから数キロほどの距離にある。
It’s just a few kilometers from Phanom Rung.
遺跡はほぼ正方形の敷地内にあり、こちらも見応えがある。
The ruins are set within a nearly square compound, and they’re quite impressive too.
どちらも素晴らしくて、甲乙つけがたい。
Both sites were wonderful—it’s hard to say which one I liked more.
さて、パノムルン遺跡を堪能したあとはどうしよう？
Now that I’d fully enjoyed Phanom Rung, I wondered what to do next.
このまま宿に戻ってのんびりするのもいいけれど、せっかくバイクを借りているし…。
I could just head back to the guesthouse and relax, but since I had the bike…
もう少し頑張ってみることにした。
I decided to push on a bit further.
ということで、カンボジア国境近くにある遺跡まで行ってみることに。
So I set my sights on a ruin near the Cambodian border.
ここパノムルンからは約45kmの距離。
It was about 45 kilometers from Phanom Rung.
Googleマップを頼りに、ひたすら走る。
I followed Google Maps and rode on.
途中、かなり田舎の集落をいくつも通り抜け、「そろそろ到着かな」と思ったところで…
I passed through some very rural villages, and just when I thought I was almost there…
軍関係者がいて、通行止めされていた。
There were military personnel blocking the road.
一旦バイクを降りて、タバコを一服。
I got off the bike and took a smoke break.
すると、軍の人が近づいてきて、「どこへ行くんだ？」と聞かれた。
A soldier approached and asked, “Where are you going?”
スマホで目的地の地図を見せると、「ダメだ。ここから先は行けない。戻れ」と。
I showed him the map on my phone, but he said, “No. You can’t go any further. Turn back.”
通行止めの様子を写真に撮ろうとしたら、それもダメだと言われた。
When I tried to take a photo of the roadblock, he told me I couldn’t.
軍用車を指さして「これは撮ってもいい？」と聞いたら、それはOKだった。
I pointed to a military vehicle and asked, “Can I take a photo of that?” He said that was fine.
事前にGoogleの口コミを確認していて、1か月前の投稿もあったから行けると思っていたのに…。
I had checked recent Google reviews, including one from just a month ago, so I thought it would be fine.
せっかくここまで来たのに、残念。
It was disappointing to come all this way for nothing.
でも、後日、日本に帰国してから、この近くでタイとカンボジアの衝突が再発したというニュースを見た。
However, after returning to Japan, I saw news that clashes had resumed near the Thai-Cambodian border.
行かなくてよかったのかもしれない。
Maybe it was for the best that I didn’t go.
日も暮れてきて、寒くなってきた。
As the sun began to set, it started getting chilly.
急げばバイク屋の営業時間に間に合いそうだったけど、安全運転を優先。
I thought I might make it back before the rental shop closed, but I chose to drive safely instead.
宿の近くまで戻ってきたところで、休憩を兼ねてガソリンスタンドで給油。
Near the guesthouse, I stopped at a gas station to refuel and take a short break.
その時点で、もう閉店時間には間に合わないと判断し、焦らず帰ることにした。
At that point, I realized I wouldn’t make it before closing time, so I took my time heading back.
やっとのことで宿に到着。長いツーリングだったなぁ。
I finally made it back to the guesthouse. What a long ride it had been.
合計で200kmくらい走ったかもしれない。
I must’ve ridden about 200 kilometers in total.
冷えた体を温かいシャワーで癒して、就寝。
I warmed up with a hot shower and went to bed.
