今日はピサヌロークからコーンケンへ行く。
事前にバスターミナルで調べたら日中帯は1日1本。
時間は15:30発。調べたのはバスターミナル1。
昨夜、宿のオーナーの奥様にターミナル2に電話をかけてもらい調べてもらったが、
結局同じ時間に1本だけらしい。
ターミナル2へはここから遠いので、同じ時間しかないなら近い方のターミナル1から出発する予定。
Today I’m heading from Phitsanulok to Khon Kaen.
I checked at the bus terminal beforehand and found that during the day there’s only one bus,
departing at 15:30. I checked at Terminal 1.
Last night, the guesthouse owner’s wife called Terminal 2,
but it turned out there was only one bus at the same time.
Since Terminal 2 is far away, I plan to depart from the closer Terminal 1.
宿のテーブルに置いてあった花のようなものが昨日から気になっていた。
朝、オーナーに聞いたらハイビスカスの蕾だって。
これ自体も食べられるんだよって言って、少しとって食べさせてくれた。
酸っぱい！レモンみたい。
後味が、レモンより酸っぱいかも。
これをお茶に入れて飲むんだって。
ハイビスカスティーっていうのがあるのは知っていたけど。
レモンティーみたいな味がするんだろうな。
On the guesthouse table, I noticed something that looked like a flower yesterday.
In the morning, I asked the owner, and he told me it was a hibiscus bud.
He said it was edible and let me taste it—sour, like lemon,
maybe even more sour afterward. Apparently, it’s used to make tea.
I knew hibiscus tea existed, but tasting the bud itself was new.
I imagine it tastes similar to lemon tea.
バスまでまだ時間があったので、朝飯を探しがてら散歩。
途中に学校があって、前にいくつか露店が出ていて、そこでパイナップルを購入。25B（約125円）。
前に食べたものより甘みが少ない…。残念。
Since there was still time before the bus,
I went for a walk while looking for breakfast.
Along the way, I passed a school with some street stalls in front,
and I bought pineapple there for 25 baht (about 125 yen).
It was less sweet than the one I had before… disappointing.
宿で休憩していたが、昨日バスターミナルで聞いた「11時」というのが気になって、
早めにチェックアウト。
チェックアウト時にオーナーが居なかったので、チップボックスに宿代を入れ、
書置きの上に鍵を置いて出発。
Grabでバイタクを呼び、ターミナルまで20B（約100円）。
I rested at the guesthouse, but the “11 o’clock”
I was told at the bus terminal yesterday bothered me, so I checked out early.
The owner wasn’t there, so I put the room fee in the tip box,
left a note with the key, and departed.
I called a motorcycle taxi via Grab to the terminal for 20 baht (about 100 yen).
昨日、受付の人が「11時に来い」と言っていた。
もしかして午前中に1便あるのかも？
と淡い期待で11時前に着いたが…やはり15:50発のバスしかないみたい。
こんなことなら宿でもう少しゆっくりしてれば良かった。
11時ってなんだったんだろう？受付が開く時間？
それとも一日に一便だけだから、この時間にチケットを買わないと満席になるとか？
よくわからなかったが、とりあえずチケット購入。
301B（約1505円）。1Bってなんだろう？300Bにすればいいのに。
Yesterday, the staff told me to come at 11.
Maybe there was a bus in the morning?
With faint hope, I arrived before 11, but it turned out the only bus was still at 15:50.
I should have stayed longer at the guesthouse.
What did “11” mean? The opening time of the counter?
Or maybe since there’s only one bus a day,
you need to buy the ticket at that time to avoid it selling out?
I wasn’t sure, but I bought the ticket anyway.
It cost 301 baht (about 1505 yen). Why 301 instead of 300?
バスターミナルでピサヌロークからコーンケン方面への行先と時刻がわかる紙をもらった。
重いバックパックはチケット売り場で無料で預かってもらえた。
At the bus terminal, I received a paper listing destinations and times from Phitsanulok to Khon Kaen.
My heavy backpack was kept at the ticket counter free of charge.

腹が減ってきたので少し早めの昼食。良さげな店を見つけたがビールが無い。
持ち込みできるか聞いたけどダメだって。
タイでは持ち込みに寛大なことが多いのに。
Google翻訳でタイ語に訳したけど、うまく伝わらなかったのかな。
仕方なく2件隣の店でビールを買って店頭で飲む。
飲み終わってからまた飯屋に戻って、タイ風チャーハン「カーオパット」を頂く。45B（約225円）。
具にはトマトも使われていた。チャーハンにトマトは珍しいけど、これはこれでアリ。
粉胡椒も使われていて珍しかった。タイで初めてかも？
粒胡椒はよくあるけど、粉胡椒は初めて見た。こっちのほうが安上がりなのかな？笑
I got hungry, so I looked for an early lunch.
I found a nice restaurant but they didn’t have beer.
I asked if I could bring my own, but they said no.
Usually Thailand is lenient about bringing drinks.
I even tried translating with Google, but maybe it didn’t come across well.
So I bought beer at a shop two doors down and drank it outside.
After finishing, I returned to the restaurant and ordered Thai fried rice (Khao Pad) for 45 baht (about 225 yen).
It had tomatoes, which is unusual for fried rice, but it worked.
It also had powdered pepper, which was rare. Maybe my first time in Thailand seeing that.
Whole peppercorns are common, but powdered pepper sprinkled on top was new.
Maybe it’s cheaper this way?
この店では九官鳥を飼っていて、電話の音や他の鳥の鳴き声、猫の鳴き声まで真似していた。
鳥なのに「ニャー」と言っていて面白かった。
The restaurant kept a myna bird that mimicked phone sounds, other birds, and even cat meows.
Hearing a bird say “meow” was hilarious.
ベンチに座って待っていたが暇すぎて、前のお店でまたビールを飲もうと席を立ったら、複数人に呼び止められた。
戻ってみるとスマホを忘れていた。スマホをなくしたら旅行続行は無理。
危なかった。皆さんの親切に感謝。
I was sitting on a bench waiting, but got bored and stood up to drink another beer at the shop across.
Several people called out to me, and when I returned, I realized I had forgotten my phone.
Losing it would have made continuing the trip impossible.
That was close. I was grateful for everyone’s kindness.
タイ語が読めないので詳しくはわからないが、多分お坊さんや障害者用の優先席があった。
これを見たのは初めて。お坊さん優先席は何度も見たけど、囲いがあるのは珍しい。
I can’t read Thai, but I think there were priority seats for monks and people with disabilities.
It was my first time seeing that. I had seen monk priority seats before, but never with a partition.
近くに停めてあったスクーターに、こんなステッカーが貼られていた。
惜しい…最後の一文字だけが間違っている。
There was a scooter parked nearby with a sticker like this on it.
So close… just the last character is wrong.
バスは25分遅れの16:15出発。
バスの中では特にやることもなく、日が暮れてからは山道を走るので景色も木しか見えない。
途中の山道では星がとても綺麗だった。スマホで時々、今どこらへんを走っているのか確認するぐらい。
しかし、それでもバッテリーが無くなってきて、パワーバンクを使ったけど、それも無くなって…。
遂に充電が10%ほどになってしまった。今回のバスはUSBのコンセントが無い。
コーンケンのバスターミナルに着いても電池切れではGrabも呼ぶことが出来なくなる…。
運転席ならUSBあるだろう？と、運転席に行き、運転手に充電したいと言ったら、使わせてくれた。よかったー。
The bus departed 25 minutes late at 16:15.
There wasn’t much to do inside,
and after sunset the bus ran through mountain roads where only trees were visible.
Along the way, the stars looked beautiful.
I occasionally checked my location on my phone, but the battery kept draining.
Even my power bank ran out, and finally the phone was down to about 10%.
This bus didn’t have USB outlets.
If my phone died upon arrival at Khon Kaen, I wouldn’t be able to call Grab.
I thought maybe the driver’s seat had one, so I asked the driver if I could charge there.
He let me use it—what a relief.
コーンケンに到着 21:45。バスターミナルから宿までは5kmほど。
この時間で歩くのはちょっときつい。
韓国人旅行者3人がいたので、タクシーをシェアしないか？と聞いてみたが、嫌だと。
ローカルバスもあるがチェックインの時間が来ているので仕方なくタクシー。
後で調べたら、ローカルバスは早く終わってしまい、そもそもこの時間には営業していないらしい。
Grabで検索したが、夜遅いからかバイクタクシーは無し。
普通のタクシーで移動。95バーツ（約475円）。
せっかく安い宿にしたのに…。損してるかも。
Arrived in Khon Kaen at 21:45.
The guesthouse was about 5 km from the bus terminal, too far to walk at this hour.
I asked three Korean travelers if they wanted to share a taxi, but they refused.
There was a local bus, but since check-in time was approaching, I had no choice but to take a taxi.
Later I found out the local bus service had already ended for the day.
I searched Grab, but there were no motorcycle taxis available late at night.
So I took a regular taxi for 95 baht (about 475 yen).
I had chosen a cheap guesthouse, but this expense felt like a loss.
これじゃ、チェックインの21時までに間に合わない。
前もって「22時頃になるけどチェックイン出来ますか？」ってメッセージ送っておいたけど、返事は無かった。
Grabの行き先はこの辺ってやったから場所が違っていた。
タクシーの中で気づいたので行きたいところを再度説明して、ちゃんと宿に到着。
This meant I couldn’t make it by the 21:00 check-in deadline.
I had sent a message earlier asking, “Can I check in around 22:00?” but got no reply.
On Grab, I had set the destination vaguely, so the location was wrong.
I realized this in the taxi and explained again where I wanted to go, and finally arrived at the guesthouse.
宿について、入り口を入ると二人の旅行者らしき人がロビーに居た。
スタッフは居ない。ロビーにはオーストラリア人のおじさんと、中国人の青年がいた。
中国人の方はパソコンでゲームに夢中で、私のことなどお構いなし。
オーストラリア人のおじさんは「今日ここに泊まるの？」とか「セブンはこの近くにあるよ」とか色々教えてくれて助かった。
At the guesthouse, I entered the lobby and saw two travelers. There were no staff.
One was an Australian man, the other a young Chinese man.
The Chinese traveler was absorbed in his computer game and ignored me.
The Australian man, however,
asked if I was staying there tonight and told me useful things like “There’s a 7-Eleven nearby.”
That was helpful.
Wi-Fiの接続方法やスタッフへの連絡方法を教えてもらったので、宿のオーナーにWhatsAppで電話して到着を伝える。
オーナーは2階に住んでいるらしく、降りてきてくれた。
「もう寝るところだったよ」と少し迷惑そうな顔をされたけど…。メール送っていたんだけどなー。
シーツと枕カバー、ブランケットを渡されて「自分でセットしてくれ」と。
ブランケットはとても薄くてちょっと心配。
He explained how to connect to Wi-Fi and how to contact the staff,
so I called the owner via WhatsApp to say I had arrived.
The owner lived upstairs and came down, looking slightly annoyed, saying, “I was about to go to bed.”
I had sent an email earlier, though. He gave me sheets, pillowcases, and a blanket,
telling me to set them up myself.
The blanket was very thin, which worried me a little.
荷物を降ろして、近くのセブンイレブンに食事とビールを買いに行く。
ロビーでビールを飲みながら、先程のオーストラリア人のおじさんとお話し。
疲れたので今日はシャワーも浴びずに就寝。
After dropping off my luggage, I went to a nearby 7-Eleven to buy food and beer.
I drank in the lobby while chatting with the Australian man. Exhausted,
I skipped the shower and went straight to bed.
