今日も雨。
It’s raining again today.
昨日の夜中から降り始めて、今も降り続いている。
It started raining around midnight yesterday and hasn’t stopped since.
天気予報では、今日は「曇り時々晴れ」だったけど。
The forecast said “partly cloudy with occasional sunshine” today.
海外の天気予報はあまり当てにならない。
Foreign weather forecasts aren’t very reliable.
小雨になったタイミングで移動開始。
I set off when the rain eased into a drizzle.
泊まった宿は人の気配がなくて、ちょっと不気味だった。
The place I stayed at felt deserted—kind of eerie, honestly.
部屋は空いているのに、なぜゲストの予約を取らないんだろう？
There were clearly vacant rooms, so why weren’t they accepting more guests?
鍵がかかっていなかったので空室を覗いてみたが、誰もいなかった。
One door wasn’t locked, so I peeked inside—completely empty.
工事業者が入って改装しているようだったから、
It looked like construction workers were doing renovations,
そのせいでゲストの受け入れ数を減らしているのかもしれない。
so maybe they were limiting the number of guests because of that.
結局、最後まで理由はわからなかった。
In the end, it remained a mystery.
今日の宿は、今の宿から歩いて10分ほどの場所。
Today’s accommodation is about a 10-minute walk from the previous one.
たまたまだと思うけど、中国人の宿泊客がたくさんいた。
It might just be coincidence, but there were a lot of Chinese guests.
どうやら、宿のオーナーは中国語教師の資格を持つタイ人女性らしい。
Apparently, the owner is a Thai woman who’s certified to teach Chinese.
それも関係しているのかもしれない。
That might explain the large number of Chinese guests.
ちょっとだけ不安。中国人って、声が大きいから…。
I felt a bit uneasy—Chinese tourists can be quite loud…
案の定、大声で話していた。
Sure enough, they were chatting loudly.
荷物を置いてから、昨日預けた洗濯物を取りに行きつつ、町を散策。
After dropping off my bags, I went to pick up the laundry I left yesterday and took a walk around town.
洗濯物はちゃんと乾いていて、ひと安心。
The laundry was perfectly dry—what a relief.
天気が良ければドーイステープまで行こうと思っていたけど、
I had planned to visit Doi Suthep if the weather was nice,
あいにくの空模様だったので断念。
but the gloomy skies made me change my mind.
ドーイステープ行きのソンテウの呼び込みも、なんだか元気がなかった。
Even the songthaew drivers heading to Doi Suthep seemed unmotivated.
ちょうどお昼時だったので、何か食べようと思い、
It was around lunchtime, so I decided to grab something to eat.
事前に調べておいた評判のカオソーイ屋さんに行ってみた。
I headed to a well-reviewed khao soi place I’d looked up beforehand.
美味しい！…けど、ココナッツの風味が私にはちょっと合わないかも。
Delicious! But… the coconut flavor didn’t quite suit my taste.
カオソーイは50バーツ（約250円）。
The khao soi cost 50 baht (about 250 yen).
そこから少し歩いたところにマーケットがあるようなので、寄ってみた。
I heard there was a market nearby, so I walked over to check it out.
特に面白いものはなかったけど、
Nothing particularly interesting,
マーケットって、見てるだけでも楽しいから好き。
but I enjoy markets anyway—just browsing is fun.
メロンを10バーツ（約50円）で買って食べてみたけど、全然甘くなかった…。
I bought a melon for 10 baht (about 50 yen), but it wasn’t sweet at all… total miss.
途中、ガイドブックに載っていないような遺跡を発見。
Along the way, I stumbled upon some ruins that weren’t in any guidebook.
こういうのを見つけると、「私だけが知ってる場所」って感じがして嬉しい。
Finding places like that makes me feel like I’ve discovered a secret spot just for me.
一度宿に戻る。
I headed back to the guesthouse for a bit.
白人男性と中国人がジェンガをしていた。
A white guy and some Chinese guests were playing Jenga.
見ていたら「一緒にやる？」と誘ってくれたので、
They invited me to join, so
少しだけ一緒に遊んだ。
I played with them for a little while.
「タバコ吸いたいから、ちょっと抜けるね」と言って外へ。
I told them, “I’m stepping out for a smoke,” and went outside.
外でタバコを吸っていたら、すごいタクシーを発見。
While smoking outside, I spotted an amazing-looking taxi.
タイでも人気なんだね？
So they’re popular in Thailand too?
さっきの中国人グループの中に若い女の子がいて、英語で話しかけてきた。
One of the young women from the Chinese group earlier came up and spoke to me in English.
「あなたは日本人？」
“Are you Japanese?”
「そう、日本人だよ。よく韓国人に間違われるけどね」と少し会話。
“Yes, I am. Though people often mistake me for Korean,” I replied, and we chatted a bit.
彼女が「あなた、英語上手ですね」と言ってくれて、
She said, “Your English is really good,”
なぜか私が中国人に英語を教えることに。苦笑
and somehow, I ended up giving her an English lesson. *laughs*
「酸っぱい」は “sour” って教えたけど、
I taught her that “酸っぱい” is “sour,”
どうしても “shower” って発音しちゃって、面白かった。
but she kept pronouncing it like “shower”—it was hilarious.
中国人って “sour” の発音が苦手なのかな？
Maybe “sour” is just hard for Chinese speakers to pronounce?
中国人に英語が上手だねって言われるのは・・・なんか複雑な気持ち
Being told “Your English is good” by a Chinese person… gives me mixed feelings.
宿の外では、大麻を吸ってる人がちらほら。
Outside the guesthouse, a few people were smoking weed.
中国人、オーストラリア人、イラン人、バングラデシュ人とおしゃべり。
I chatted with people from China, Australia, Iran, and Bangladesh.
イラン人に「イランって危なくないの？」と聞いたら、
I asked the Iranian guy, “Isn’t Iran dangerous?”
「危ないのはイラクで、イランは安全だよ」って言ってた。
He said, “Iraq is dangerous, not Iran.”
本当かな？
I wonder if that’s true?
インスタも交換した。
We exchanged Instagram handles too.
みんな、外の喫煙所でハッパを回し吸いしてた。
They were all passing around a joint at the smoking area.
私は吸わないけどね。
I didn’t join in, of course.
タバコのほうが安いし、
Cigarettes are cheaper anyway,
気持ちよくなりたいなら、お酒を飲む派。
and if I want to feel good, I’d rather drink.
夜はまたナイトマーケットへ。
At night, I went to the night market again.
でも、特に良いものはなかった。
Nothing really caught my eye this time.
帰り道、目の前でバイク同士の事故を目撃。
On the way back, I witnessed a motorcycle crash right in front of me.
倒れたバイクを起こして、邪魔にならない場所に移動させて、
I helped lift the fallen bike and moved it out of the way,
少しだけ交通整理もした。
I even directed traffic a little.
他の外国人観光客も集まってきて、倒れた運転手を助け起こしていた。
Other foreign tourists came over too and helped the fallen rider get up.
衝撃的な出来事だった。
It was a shocking experience.
宿の前で、ビールを飲みながらみんなとおしゃべり。
Back at the guesthouse, I chatted with everyone while sipping a beer.
もちろん、ビールは私のおごり。
Of course, the beer was on me.
「明日、全員私に100バーツ払ってね」って冗談を言ったら、
I joked, “Everyone owes me 100 baht tomorrow,”
みんな驚いた顔をして、
and they all looked surprised.
「冗談だよ！」って言ったら、
When I said, “Just kidding!”
「なんだよ、脅かすなよ！」って笑ってくれた。
they laughed and said, “Don’t scare us like that!”
