朝、コンビニで朝食を購入。どうやら「Buy 1 Get 1 Free」だったらしく、
サンドイッチをもう1つもらえた。
今日は列車に乗って泰緬鉄道を満喫する予定だ。
In the morning, I bought breakfast at a convenience store. Apparently,
it was a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” deal, so I got an extra sandwich.
Today, I planned to enjoy a ride on the Thai-Burma Railway.
同じ車両には団体客が乗っていて、ウロウロ歩き回ったり、
ずっと話をしていたりで、ゆっくりとした列車旅は味わえなかった。
片道100B（約500円）、往復で1,000円は少し高い気がする。
景色の良い場所では皆が片側の窓に寄るので、車両がそちらに傾くようで少し怖かった。

In the same carriage, there was a large group of tourists.
They kept moving around and talking,
so it wasn’t the peaceful train journey I had hoped for.
The fare was 100 Baht (about 500 yen) one way,
so 1,000 yen round trip felt a bit expensive.
At scenic spots, everyone leaned to one side of the train,
making it tilt slightly—it was a bit scary.
目的地に到着。
お腹が空いていたので、まずは昼食。
観光地価格で、ビールと食事で90B（約450円）。
満腹になったところで観光開始。改めて見ると、
よくこんな場所に橋を作ったものだと感心する。
当時の日本軍は捕虜を酷使して建設したため悪い印象が残っているが、
今では観光資源となり、地元の人々の収入源にもなっているのは複雑な気持ちになる。
Arriving at the destination, I was hungry, so I had lunch first.
It was tourist-priced—beer and food for 90 Baht (about 450 yen).
Once full, I began sightseeing.
It was impressive to see how they managed to build a bridge in such a place.
The Japanese army forced POWs to construct it, leaving a negative legacy,
but now it has become a tourist attraction and a source of income for locals,
which feels complicated.

帰りの列車は余裕で座れ、ボックスシートで快適だった。
駅から徒歩で宿まで戻る。
アルコールが買える時間までまだあったので、Grabでバイクタクシーを呼びバスターミナルへ。
宿の周囲には旅行会社がなく、現地ツアーのみ。
コラート行きのバスを確認すると、昨日聞いた通り18時発のみで、
到着は25時になるとのこと。そこで急遽、チェンマイ行きに変更することにした。
On the return train, I easily found a seat in a box-style arrangement,
which was comfortable.
I walked back to the hostel from the station.
Since it was still before alcohol sales hours,
I called a Grab motorbike taxi to the bus terminal.
Around the hostel, there were no travel agencies, only local tours.
I asked about buses to Korat, and as I had learned yesterday,
there was only one at 6 p.m., arriving at 1 a.m.
So I decided to change plans and head to Chiang Mai instead.
駅まで戻るのはソンテウで10B（約50円）。
オレンジのソンテウはタクシーで、青のソンテウが普通の乗り合いらしい。
歩いている途中でビールとタバコを購入。
今の宿は明日までの予約だが、延泊しようと思ったものの、
明後日のバスが早朝発なので、バスターミナルまで歩いて行ける場所に宿を変更することにした。
To return to the station, I took a songthaew for 10 Baht (about 50 yen).
The orange ones seemed to be taxis, while the blue ones were shared rides.
On the way, I bought beer and cigarettes.
My current hostel was booked until tomorrow,
but since my bus the day after leaves early in the morning,
I decided to change to a hostel within walking distance of the bus terminal.
外でビールを飲みながらタバコを吸う。
するとまた、話好きなタイ人のおばちゃんが現れ、
しばし会話。早めに就寝することにした。
I sat outside, drinking beer and smoking. Once again,
a talkative Thai lady joined me, and we chatted for a while.
I went to bed early.
