バンコク・カオサン通りからカンチャナブリーへ旅した一日
今日はバンコクのカオサンからカンチャナブリーへ向かう。
Today I’m heading from Bangkok’s Khao San Road to Kanchanaburi.
宿のスタッフとのやり取り
昨日、宿のスタッフにモーチットバスターミナルへの行き方を聞いたら
「私はタイ人ではないのでわからない」と。
なんとスタッフは中国人だった。苦笑
Yesterday, I asked the hostel staff how to get to Mo Chit Bus Terminal.
They replied, “I’m not Thai, so I don’t know.”
Surprisingly, the staff turned out to be Chinese. chuckle
バス停を探して
Googleで行き方を調べると宿を出て数分のところにあるバス停から行けるようだ。
歩いて、バス停まで向かう。しかし、バスを待ってもなかなか来ない。
10分ほど待ったところで、地元民に聞いてみると、一応このバス停であっているようだ。
タバコを一服したところで、やっとバスが来た。17B（約80円）バス7:40乗車。
Google Maps showed that I could catch a bus just a few minutes from the hostel.
I walked to the stop, but no bus came.
After waiting 10 minutes, I asked locals—they confirmed it was the right stop.
Finally, after a cigarette break, the bus arrived. Fare: 17 Baht (about 80 yen).
Boarded at 7:40.
ローカルバスの驚き
カンチャナブリには毎時間バスがあるらしいので、
乗れないことはないだろう。
バスに乗っていた時、驚いたのは途中で車掌が弁当を買いに行って少し待たされた。
凄いな。ローカルバスだけど、許されるんだな…。苦笑
I heard buses to Kanchanaburi run every hour,
so I wasn’t worried. On the way,
the conductor even stopped to buy lunch—only in Thailand!
Amazing that it’s allowed on a local bus. chuckle
モーチット到着とミニバス
8:50にモーチットのバスターミナルに到着。
以前、ここからアユタヤに行った時はミニバンだったので、
カンチャナブリーもミニバンかと思って覚悟していたが、ミニバスだった。
ネットでは「運転が荒くて飛ばすからお勧めしない」と書いてあったが、どんなもんだろうか？
乗ってみたが、確かに運転手は飛ばす。しかし、ベトナムやラオスに比べれば屁みたいなもの。
ちょうど9:00発のミニバスに乗れた。130B(約650円)。
Arrived at Mo Chit at 8:50.
Last time to Ayutthaya I took a minivan, so I expected the same, but this time it was a minibus.
Online reviews warned of reckless driving, and indeed the driver sped,
but compared to Vietnam or Laos, it was nothing.
I caught the 9:00 minibus for 130 Baht (about 650 yen).
カンチャナブリー到着と移動手段
カンチャナブリーに11:30頃到着。バスステーションで行き先を調査。
次の町候補のコラートにも行けそうだが、職員から「1日に1便、午後6時発」と教えてもらう。
スタッフのおばちゃんは
「今チケット取らないと直ぐに満席になるよ！」と言われたが、
深夜着になるので保留。宿までどう行こうか悩む。
この街にはローカルバスが無いらしい。
タクシーかバイクタクシー、あとソンテウぐらい。
ソンテウに値段を聞いたら100B（約600円）。高すぎる。
後から分かったがチャーターの値段らしい。
Arrived in Kanchanaburi around 11:30.
At the bus station, I checked destinations—Korat was possible,
but only one bus daily at 6 p.m.
A staff lady insisted I buy a ticket now or it would sell out,
but arriving at midnight didn’t appeal, so I held off.
Getting to the hostel was tricky—no local buses here.
Options were taxi, motorbike taxi, or songthaew. The songthaew quoted 100 Baht (about 600 yen),
which was too expensive. Later I learned that was the charter price.
バスステーションで、どんな行き先があるか調査。
昼食と街歩き
バンコクからカンチャナブリーまではミニバスで130B。
それなのに3km程度で100Bは許せない。街の様子を見つつ、
昼時だったので食堂を探しながら歩く。
途中で良さげな飯屋があり、ビール大瓶と飯で120B（約600円）。
近くには橋建設時に動員された捕虜や日本人の墓があった。
The minibus from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi cost 130 Baht,
so paying 100 Baht for just 3 km felt outrageous.
I walked instead, exploring the town and looking for lunch.
Found a nice eatery—large beer and meal for 120 Baht.
Nearby were graves of POWs and Japanese soldiers from the bridge construction era.
宿と洗濯
宿に到着。今日は晴れていてジーパンだと暑い。
安いショートパンツを探そう。
宿には洗濯機があり、洗剤は10B（約50円）。
バンコクやカンチャナブリーでは40B/kgが相場らしい。
乾燥機は無いが、暑いので翌日には乾くだろうと洗濯開始。
干してから散歩へ。
Finally reached the hostel.
It was hot, so jeans felt uncomfortable—I needed cheap shorts.
The hostel had a washing machine, detergent cost 10 Baht (about 50 yen).
Laundry rates here and in Bangkok were about 40 Baht/kg.
No dryer, but with this heat, clothes would dry by tomorrow.
After hanging them, I went for a walk.
ビール飲みたいけど、ビール販売の時間になってないから買えないし…。
戦場にかける橋で有名なクエー橋まで約2.5kmのお散歩。
暑いし…途中で挫けそうになったが、到着。
観光客が多い。自分もそうなんだけどね。
橋を見物してから宿に戻る。
途中で衣料品店があったので覗いてみる。ショートパンツを買おうかなと物色。
安めのやつが139B（約695円）で売っていた。
他にも安いやつがあったが生地がペラペラでパンツが透けてしまいそうなもの。
根切りをしようと、最初に70Bでどう？と言ってみたが、だめ。
120B（約600円）だったらいいよ。
ラストプライス！って言われたけど、再度、100Bにしてよ！と粘ったがだめだった。
暑さに負けて120Bで購入。お店の女性の歳は私の1つ上だった。
娘さんは日本に行ったことがあるらしく、今は海外で働いているとのこと。
そんな話を少ししてから退店。町は白人系の長期滞在者と思われる外国人が多い。
退役した外国人が住み着いているようだ。
途中のお店でビールを購入。宿の冷蔵庫にイン。
他のゲストでタイ人おばちゃんが居て、話好きらしい。彼女としばしお話。
I wanted to drink beer, but it wasn’t within the legal sales hours,
so I couldn’t buy any.
I walked about 2.5 km to the famous Bridge on the River Kwai.
The heat was intense, and I almost gave up halfway, but I finally arrived.
There were many tourists—myself included. After viewing the bridge,
I headed back to the hostel.
On the way, I stopped at a clothing shop to look for shorts.
A cheaper pair was priced at 139 Baht (about 695 yen).
Other cheaper ones looked flimsy, with fabric so thin that underwear might show through.
I tried bargaining, first offering 70 Baht, but the seller refused. She said,
“120 Baht is fine, last price!” I pushed again for 100 Baht, but she didn’t agree.
Defeated by the heat, I bought them for 120 Baht (about 600 yen).
The shop lady was one year older than me,
and she mentioned her daughter had been to Japan and now works abroad.
After chatting a bit, I left the shop.
The town seemed full of long-term foreign residents, mostly Western retirees.
On the way, I bought beer at a shop and put it in the hostel fridge. Another guest,
a Thai lady, was very talkative, so I chatted with her for a while.
ナイトマーケットと夕食
宿のタイ人おばちゃんと一緒にナイトマーケットへ。
彼女はアメリカ在住で年に数回帰国するそうだ。虫料理を勧められ、
試しに食べてみたらエビのような味。
私はマッシュルーム入りオムレツを選んだ。50B（約300円）。
カラフルなお菓子もあり、グリンピースで作られていた。
Went to the night market with a Thai lady from the hostel.
She lives in the U.S. and returns a few times a year.
She bought fried insects and offered me one—it tasted like shrimp,
with a leafy aftertaste.
I chose a mushroom omelet instead, 50 Baht.
Colorful sweets made from green peas were also sold.
